Starting at sun down last night, Yom Hashoah began. Yom Hashoah is Holocaust Rememberance Day here in Israel. Everything, bars, restaurants, stores, the gym, shuts down just before sunset when the holiday begins. The cable TV stations stop airing shows even. During the day light hours, at 10AM, the air raid sirens go off for two minutes and the entire country stops. It was an inspiring sight to see. The cars and buses just stopped in the streets, everyone stopped what they were doing and just stood up. This day is a very personal event for Israelis because nearly everyone here lost family in the Holocaust. It really is an experience to see how an entire country comes together for two minutes over the loss of loved ones.
